Nitrogen Tire Fill Program
We are proud to offer our customers to the safety and protection of our Nitro-Safe nitrogen tire fill program. When you subscribe to our exclusive Nitro-Safe program, we'll remove the air from your tires and replace it with nitrogen. Having tires filled with nitrogen as opposed to air provides more consistent tire pressure and therefore improved safety and fuel economy. It also helps to reduce rim corrosion and premature tire wear. Once you're on the program, you are entitled to no charge nitrogen top ups for the life of your tires when you service here at Reid Brother's.
Why Use Nitrogen?
Nitrogen is a dry, inert gas used to inflate airplane tires, off-road truck tires, military vehicle tires, and race car tires for improved performance and safety. Oxygen in compressed air permeates through the wall of the tire reducing the tire's inflation pressure. During its journey through the tire wall, oxygen oxidizes the rubber compounds in the tire, causing under-inflation and deteriorated rubber. The nitrogen molecule is much larger than that of oxygen and therefore diffuses through the tire much slower. Dry nitrogen helps the tire run cooler and more safely.
Benefits of Nitrogen
Enhanced Safety
The most significant benefit of filling your tires with nitrogen is enhanced safety. Under-inflation of tires due to the diffusion of air through the tire has been identified as a significant cause of tire failures.
According to Transport Canada, "Without proper maintenance, such as correct inflation pressure, tires could suddenly fail, causing you to lose control of your vehicle".
Improved Fuel Efficiency
Correct inflation is highly significant when considering tire life and performance. As inflation pressure largely determines a tire's load capacity, under-inflation results in an overloaded tire. An under-inflated tire operates at high deflection resulting in decreased fuel economy, sluggish handling and may result in excessive mechanical flexing and heat buildup leading to catastrophic tire failure.
Extend Tire Life
Nitrogen will help extend tire life by reducing premature wear of the tire. The causes of premature tire failure which are addressed by nitrogen include:
